EA Mobile has teamed up with Blue Planet Software, the company that manages the exclusive licensing rights to the Tetris brand, to bring Tetris to your Android mobile phone. Not only that, but it'll be free too.

Clearly Tetris needs no introduction; the very fact it stands as one of the most-played video games in the world and is available across 50 platforms in over 185 countries means that the free version will be a welcome addition to the Android platform.

"Tetris is one of the most distinctive, well-known and popular video game franchises in the world and it gives EA the opportunity to grow its already-expanding customer base on the Android platform," said Bernard Kim, vice president of Sales and Marketing for EA Interactive. "Tetris has a strong legacy in the mobile gaming world and we’re excited to bring a free version of Tetris to yet another great platform."

The new free version of the classic game will bring improved visuals, along with marathon mode - which should all come together nicely with its touchscreen controls and allow players to slide, rotate and drop blocks into, hopefully, the right position. All this, and you'll be able to track stats and high scores as well.
